There were mere hours until the deadline in the Ball Bearings office and all I had was a head shot. Knowing that we needed graphics for both the website and a newspaper spread, I had to get creative, and fast! Sometimes a fire under your seat is all you need to get the good ideas flowing.
Sexual Assault Awareness Week
In News 485, the news packaging class, Nikki Stroud and I worked together to present a simple current events news package including a web story and supplementary info. We researched and attended events together. As the news major, Stroud wrote the story while I generated the graphic sidebar.

Look East
Look East is a healthy living and general interest magazine designed by Michael Lush and myself in Journ 323, the magazine design class. We had 16 weeks to come up with a concept; plan, research, and write our articles; direct photo shoots; and produce our magazine. Our biggest problem was that not only did we have opposite tastes, but also had completely opposite schedules. All in all, we pulled it off. Planning and communication were key.
I wrote the summary decks and produced the all the pages included in this abbreviated version except the table of contents and the music reviews. I learned the challenges of content creation, graphics collaboration, art direction, and professional press preparation.

Photos of the Week
Photos of the Week is a weekly, student-submitted photo gallery that appeared on the Ball Bearings website. I needed to design an interface that display of both horizontally and vertically oriented photos. As design editor, I also chose the photo to be featured weekly on the front page of the site.

Lake Effect Snow
In Journ 445 (interactive design), I learned that Flash animation requires careful planning, meticulous attention to detail, and a bit of luck. I also learned (the hard way) that each shape needs to be on its own layer if you want it to morph or move. It’s always a learning experience with Flash/ActionScript.

Careers in Professional Selling 2007
Careers in Professional Selling is an annual magazine produced specifically for upperclassmen in high school and college who are considering a career in sales. I researched and wrote content, then designed the pages according to the style established by the design team. My contributions include the cover, “Business Etiquette,” “Under 30 and Under Control,” and “Opportunity and Fraternity.”

Distinguished Speaker Michael Gellar
The Miller College of Business Distinguished Speaker Series allows students to learn about the paths to success as told by respected business professionals. Posters appear in every classroom and on bulletin boards around the business building. The Gellar poster allowed me to have a little fun and use my illustrative skills, still a little green as a student.

New Faculty Reception
Miller College of Business, like any business school, loves formalities. To get new faculty and staff members acquainted with the rest of the college, a meet-and-greet reception was held. The informal social event was announced through email.

Tourism-Related Commerce in Indiana
The economic report “Tourism Related Commerce in Indiana” was the first large-scale report that I put together by myself as a student. Because my mom was in the tourism industry, I was familiar with state attractions and what importance tourism has in Indiana. In retrospect, the tables look a little crazy but the overall look is very appealing. I am super proud of my first “grown up” project!

Study Abroad Program
The Miller College of Business study abroad program allowed business students to travel the world and gain exposure to international business practices through 2-week field studies. The students would tour a country or region and visit several successful companies along the way. These luggage tags were slid into the outer pocket on the students’ luggage so it was easily identifiable as part of the group. I thought these tags were colorful and super cute.
